I worked with Kara Delay of Love This Day Events on a styled shoot a few months back. The rustic reception was featured in the first edition of the MyWedding.com E-Mag, It was my first time working with Kara and she was a blast! I had only ever heard great things about her and her style, so I was SO excited to be working with her one on one! She really specializes in mountain weddings and she is amazing at what she does! She put together gorgeous flowers and other adorable details for the session. Love This Day Events is today’s vendor spotlight! Enjoy getting to know her a little bit better!
What’s your favorite Starbucks drink? Venti blonde roast with a shot of vanilla + milk. Yum.
How did you get started? How long have you been in business, etc? I got started in events as a cater waiter 10 years ago. I saw what was standard for weddings and I thought – well, I can do that. And I would be nice to people (hello, it’s a wedding. Be pleasant people!!!!). So I started a floral company. After a few years, we branches out into full planning services (what can I say, OCD took over!!) because having our hands in the entire mix made the event look and feel better. Three years ago, I left my former company to create Love This Day Events. I wanted to do fewer events a year and make every single event unique and spectacular!
What’s your favorite thing about your business?
All of it. I love the relationships. I love the design. I love the dreaming something into life. I love sending a couple down the aisle and I love greeting them upon their return with huge and champagne. I think it really all comes down to – I want to make pretty days for nice people. It is that simple. Be honest, have fun, make something pretty, make sure everyone has fun. The end.
What advice do you have for brides when booking a vendor like yourself? What should they know before they contact an event planner? Take time and make sure you like the PERSON you are working with in addition to their work. When I work as a full planner for a bride, we talk 3-4 times a week. We email constantly. There should always be giggles and laughter in addition to work and I think the relationship should be easy (never strained). In order to achieve that, you must LIKE each other. My clients become friends for life. I think everyone should have that with their planner.
How far out should a bride book you? Normally we book 12-15 months in advance. That being said, some of my favorite weddings have booked 2 years out and I have one I am working on now that booked 12 weeks out. But 12-15 months gives you (as the bride) the most options for picking not only their planner but their venue and vendors as well!
Do you travel for weddings? YES!!!! That is my specialty! I LOVE DESTINATION (heck, most Colorado mountain weddings are destination even if the couple lives in Denver). My rule for defining a wedding as destination – do you have to stop for road trip snacks on the way from your house to your venue? If you stop for snacks – it’s a destination :). I definitely have an affinity to rustic luxe locations (luxury ranches, ritz carlton properties in random far away locations, ski resorts). I am always thrown for a loop when I do a wedding in a church and a ballroom. THAT is what challenges me – setting up a nightclub in a barn, completely easy . . .
Anything else you want to share? I love what I do. I love every single part of event planning. I really do believe it is a privilege to live where I want to live and do what I want to do. I hope I never forget that.
